Homework is an essential part of school. It is meant to reinforce what was taught during class time and serve as a form of practicing skills learned. Please emphasize to your child the importance of being responsible and bringing homework to and from school every night.

HOMEWORK SCHEDULE - Reading homework changes quarterly.

*Your child should read for 20 - 30 minutes per night.

Reading - First Quarter
Monday- Write the spelling words (#1-12) four times.
Tuesday - Use the first six spelling words (#1-6)in a complete sentence. Make sure you write a "7-Up" sentence...7 words or more. Also, underline the spelling word.
Wednesday –Use the next six spelling words (#7-12)in a complete sentence. Make sure you write a "7-Up" sentence...7 words or more. Also, underline the spelling word.
Thursday – Complete the Vocabulary Four Square. Write the word, use the word in a complete sentence and draw a picture. Study for the spelling test!
Friday – Write a report (3 sentences minimum) about your weekend.
Be sure to include an illustration!


Reading - Second Quarter
Monday - Step down to each word

Tuesday - Write a question (asking) sentence for spelling words #1-6.
Wednesday - Write a statement (telling) sentence for spelling words #7-12.
Thursday -Complete the Vocabulary Four Square. Write the word, use the word in a complete sentence and draw a picture. Study for the spelling test!
Friday - Write a letter to the teacher (5 sentence minimum) about your weekend and include a small illustration.


Reading - Third Quarter
Monday - Rainbow steps-write each spelling word in steps, using a different color for each letter.
Tuesday - Write the definition of any 6 spelling words. Use a dictionary.
Wednesday - Write sentences for spelling words 1-12. Words 1-4 are telling sentences (.), words 5-8 are asking sentences (?), and words 9-12 are exclamatory sentences (!). Use each spelling word in a 7-up sentence (7 words or more).
Thursday - Vocabulary Squares - Write each vocabulary word in a box, draw/color a picture, and use the word in a sentence.
Friday - Book Report - Create a book jacket. On the front of a folded sheet of paper, draw the cover of your book. On the inside (left), write a 6 sentence summary of the story. On the inside (right), draw your favorite scene and write why it is your favorite.


Reading - Fourth Quarter

Monday - Write each spelling word 5X each.

Tuesday - Pick 6 spelling words and write the definition of each.

Wednesday - Write sentences for words 1-12. Words 1-4 are telling sentences (.) 5-8 are asking sentences (?) 9-12 are exclamatory sentences (!)
Thursday - Vocabulary 4 Square - Write all vocabulary words and use in a sentence with a picture.
Friday - Read a book and create a bookmark for your story. Draw/color your favorite part/chapter in the story on the front. On back, write title, author, main character and setting.


Math

In addition to the above mentioned work, there is usually a math sheet to complete. Be sure to complete both the front and the back side!

Science and Social Studies
A social studies or science assignment may be given periodically.

Friday Folder**
Completed/graded assignments will be sent home each Friday in the “Friday Folder”. Please review the assignments and grades with your child, remove the work and return the signed folder on Monday. Your child will receive a sticker for each week this is completed. (If we are off of school any days during the week, “Friday Folders” may come home on an odd day. Please sign and return it the following day.)
